GF Data®, which tracks the deal activity of 194 private equity firms in the middle market, recently released its Q4 2014 report -- and the trends we’re seeing may be interesting to business owners who are considering a sale.
For some time, the market has been “all push and no pull,” according to GF Data. In other words, potential sellers had been lulled into believing that the seller’s market is here to stay, so they resisted the pull of favorable macro conditions and tended to sell based only on individual circumstances.
That seems to be changing, based on GF Data’s Q4 report. The market is now experiencing some “pull,” with small businesses and less strong performers entering the market first. GF Data predicts that larger firms will follow suit in the first half of 2015.
